    1.  You need to have at least one product that you can sell. It can be a physical product or a digital product.
    
     2.  You need to have a domain name that could be linked to the sales page of the product. This is the only thing that you would actually need to purchase. A domain name can cost you as low as under $10 per year. This is a must even if you were not running an online campaign.

If you don't have a product yet, you can look for one within different product banks such as Clickbank, Commission Junction or Link Share to start with. There are more places where you can find products to sell online, but these three are plenty to start with.

     3.  You need to learn as much as you can about your product in order to be able to write articles about it.
    
     4.  Start writing one article per day about one feature of your product.
    
     5.  Once your article is written, try to break it down while adding more specific information about the product, and create a Squidoo lens or a Hubpages post. If your create both (a Squidoo lens and a Hubpages post) for the same article, you need to have different content on each one.
    
     6.  Once your Squidoo lens, hubpages post and article are indexed on Google, grab the RSS feed for each one, and feed it to different RSS feed directories.
    
     7.  Write blog posts about your Squidoo lenses, Hubpages and articles on free blogs, such as Blogger or Wordpress.
    
     8.  Start this process all over again each week.

You can improve your technique by getting more knowledge through information that is available to you. The examples above are good ways to begin generating traffic and maintaining a low cost marketing campaign.  It's certainly a viable method of marketing, appropriately named low or no cost, or bum marketing campaigns.  You may think of social networking as you would a forum type of marketing.  You would remember the etiquette rules and abide by the gentler methods of getting to know people and not pushing too much to get your message across.  You may feel you might lose the sale, but realistically it's a better way to communicate with friends and contacts.

Keeping in mind how expensive advertisement can be, it's a good idea to have an alternate means of campaigning for times of recession or lapses in business profit times.  This is one reason to employ more than one system to fall back on, because the system will work but maybe not all of the time and you'll be smart to have another campaign to work on.

Another reason I agree with bum marketing is that you learn the skills by experience and you have the skills for yourself, you learn the reasons trends happen, the results of testing, and the appropriate ways and times to do things.  This can lead to better judgement, a sounder understanding of results, and more wisdom for how to spend the next time you are buying advertisement.  There's really nothing wrong with learning the system, just get to know the available methods you have.  You'll only know more about your products and services.
